Es más una experiencia que un simple servicio de impresión. Torsten te asesora sobre el tipo de papel más adecuado para tu trabajo, te da las indicaciones adecuadas para poder realizar la impresión sin ningún tipo de problema (tanto a nivel de tamaño como de preparación del archivo), e incluso te puede dar buenos consejos, como en mi caso, para preparar un canvas donde colocar tu tela. Años de experiencia para tratar cada caso, atención al detalle y muy bien feedback. Muy recomendable.

First I had a terrible experience here, and now this guy is trying to intimidate me with legal threats. I would avoid this place if I were you.

When I first contacted Torsten I told him I wanted four prints, and I wanted to print the first one and check it before printing the other ones. He told me that doing test prints wasn’t necessary because he had calibrated his printer to the monitor. I went in and approved what he showed me on his monitor but when I got the prints I thought they they looked much darker from what he showed me, and when I told him he offered to have me bring them back in and look at them again in his studio, as if his special calibrated lighting is going to somehow magically make all the shadow detail appear out of nowhere. I had examined them thoroughly under a number of different lighting conditions already so I was not convinced by this.

He seems to have forgotten that an object viewed with a reflected light source (like a print) is going to have a much lower contrast ratio than an object with a backlit illuminated light source like a computer monitor. It’s physically impossible for a print with a 100:1 contrast ratio to look exactly like what you see on the monitor which will have a contrast ratio of at least 1000:1. The higher contrast image on the monitor gets compressed into the lower dynamic range of the print, and although calibration can help compensate for this, it’s still sometimes necessary to do test prints. In my case they would have benefited from a more rigorous proofing process. I told him I was disappointed but he never addressed my point that he talked me out of doing test prints, and I found the results obtained this way most unsatisfactory. Basically I think he places too much trust in his calibration.

Later when he noticed my review he threatened legal action against me, saying I would incur costly legal fees defending myself against his lawyers, and have to pay his legal fees as well, but I can find no legal precedent for this, and so I declined to do it. So basically not only do I feel like I wasted my time and money here, but now he is trying to intimidate me into removing this review. I could have compromised and been satisfied in a number of reasonable ways, but now that he’s threatening to sue me for false claims, I’m even more disillusioned than I was when I got the prints. Most people seem to like this place but I don’t recommend it.

The quality and care that goes into every print at this lab is truly exceptional, making it the perfect place to bring your photography to life. Mr. Torsten, himself a remarkable photographer, has a profound respect for the art form that is evident in every detail. His attention to the finest nuances in each print shows a genuine love for photography, and you simply couldn’t ask for a better person to guide you through the printing process.

To my surprise and delight, I discovered that Mr. Torsten is best friends with one of my former photography teachers—an incredibly talented photographer from my own country. This personal connection made my experience even more special. I highly recommend this lab to anyone who values quality, care, and a love for photography.

Mr.Torsten arranged an appointment with me and spent 2 hours explaining and giving me advice on how to get the best result of my photos on paper. I was super nervous with organising my first solo November exhibition and couldn't make up my mind to a trust a printing place until I came across Digital Darkroom! Torsten kindly invited me and with the greatest care and support he walked me through every tiny detail to how each print will be. With each print having different sizes, the final prints turned out more than amazing! The colors are vibrant and the chosen paper texture completed each piece better than I imagined! In addition, each print was carefully wrapped up with care and easy to be transported without any damage(:
